Airplanes, Airplanes, and More Airplanes
Combat Air Museum in Topeka, Kansas
While in Topeka checking out the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center, I drove by a sign for the Combat Air Museum, so I went and checked it out. The museum is in air plane hangars. The museum is full of airplanes and helicopters and it has displays throughout the museum that provide information about all things airplanes. The lady I spoke to at the front desk was very knowledgeable and helpful.
For kids who are into engines, the museum allows visitors to get up close and personal with airplane engines.
The museum has an air force air plane that visitors can go inside.
Activities
This museum is perfect place to take a student who is interested in airplanes, the Air Force, the military, engines, mechanics, and all things associated with these things. Students can decide on a way to document all of the things that they learn at the museum and then can decide on a way to present that information. Students could create a website, write an essay, create a scrap book, or create a documentary. Students might even want to share what they create with the museum. The museum might be willing to utilize it in some way and include the student if that is what the student wants.

A tip from someone who has been there.
The Museum of the Kansas National Guard was about a mile from the Combat Air Museum. The museum is full of military history displays. The thing that I thought was fun was a set up from the TV show MASH.
